is a fungal infection of the toenails or fingernails. This condition causes fingernails or toenails to thicken, discolor, disfigure, and split. At first glance, onychomycosis appears to be only a cosmetic concern. However, without treatment, the toenails can become severely thickened, ingrown and chronically painful.
Risk factors making one more susceptible to onychomycosis include:
- Advancing age
- Poor health
- Family history
- Showering in communal showers—such as fitness clubs/Visiting nail salons.
- Keeping nails nearly constantly covered with polish.
Treatment options include topical meds, oral meds, and the new Laser T herapy. Laser therapy is a revolutionary new treatment for this condition and is now FDA approved.
